Worcester Raiders bounced back from last week’s defeat against Droitwich Spa with a win against promotion seeking RGSG.

Beating them by the same scoreline as in the Marsh Challenge Cup earlier this season. The game was
switched to the 3G pitch as the usual home grass pitch was deemed
unplayable.

First Half
Raiders got of to a great start, going ahead after just three minutes when
Lincoln Hunt taped in a rebounded Prince Henry shot.
RGSG started to press forward and could have equalised when they had a
free header at the back post which sailed over the bar. The game was
paused on 17 minutes, when George Baker was injured and had to be
substituted, with Connor Jakeway replacing him.
In the 24th minute RCSG equalised heading into the net from a corner. Goal
scoring action continued as Raiders regained the lead within two minutes.
RGSG failed to clear the ball from a Raiders corner, allowing Prince to slot
the ball home. What a fantastic addition Prince has been since joining from
Pershore a few weeks ago.

The RGSC number 10 felt he should have been awarded a penalty after
tangling with Ben Sanogo in the Raiders box, the ref waved away his appeal.
Two minutes later Ben was injured from what appeared to be a revenge
tackle from the RGSG number 10. A yellow card was given, although on
another day the card may have been a different colour. Ben was unable to
continue and was replaced by Manny Olaloko.

Second Half
RGSG started the second half with urgency, attacking the Raiders goal.
They hit the post on 47 minutes before the follow up shot was blocked by
the Raiders defence, who had another solid performance.
RGSG pulled it back to two all, with a great shot to beat Charlie.
RGSG started to control the game going close to scoring a third goal, forcing
Charlie, who has been incredible in goal this season, to make another
brilliant save.
At the other end of the pitch Manny went down in the box, it
looked like a stonewall penalty, but the ref again waved away the appeals.
Raiders regained the lead when Adam Taylor, who had come on to replace
Lincoln, ran onto a pass and shot from outside the box into the bottom right
of the goal. Raiders continued to press forward and three minutes later
Prince had an effort saved by the keeper.

RGSG began to search for their third equaliser, again calling Charlie into
action. He saved at the feet of a striker and then made an incredible reaction
save a few minutes later. This was the last action of the game.

It wasn’t the most attractive game to watch, though it was an impressive
team performance against a tough aggressive team. The result was well
earned, Raiders deserved the three points. Raider’s defence was superb,
Jake Donnelly had an extremely strong performance and was well deserved
in being awarded player of the match.
As we now come to expect, Charlie had a fantastic game, making a number
of incredible saves. I’ve lost count of the number of points he has gained for
us this season.
Raiders have a further four HLP home matches in January and have great
opportunity to make a giant stride towards securing a playoff place.
