Raiders bounced back to winning ways with a very convincing victory against a struggling Royal Wootton Bassett. Raiders could have scored more as they outplayed their opponents and fully controlled the game.
The Raiders line up included Izak Reid, a loanee from Worcester City, making his debut wearing the number 9 shirt.
It was a slow start to the game, with few chances for either side in the first 15 minutes. Raiders clicked into gear in the 19th minute, with Jake Donnelly scoring with a powerful header, rapidly followed by a goal for Fred King from close range.
These goals settled Raiders and they played very attractive football adding a third goal in the latter minutes of the first half, scored by Kiayn Baker-Makay
The second half was much the same, Raiders continuing to control the game, slick passing, good organisation and players advancing into the box. A change to the Raiders front line, with Adam Taylor and Manny Olaloko coming off the bench, added to the attacking force.
Four further goals were added through George Baker, Adam Taylor (2) and Manny Olaloko. Raiders could have scored more, the crossbar and the feet of the goalie saving RWB further blushes and depriving Taylor of a hat trick.
The final stages of the game saw RWB score two consolation goals through a Jordan Stoddart own goal and a late strike from RWB.
It was a fantastic team performance, the way Raiders have been playing a big victory was just waiting to happen. After the first goal, Raiders visibly relaxed into the game, with Charlie Emery being his dependable self, saving at the feet of a RWB forward following an error in defence which left them clear. Adam Taylor coming on as substitute scoring two goals was great to see and George Baker having an outstanding game following his recent return from injury.
Let’s keep on a winning track next week, when Raiders travel to Longlevens.
