First Half
A lively attacking Raiders performance saw them take a two goal lead into the break. Raiders were completely in control against a poor Hallen side who were second best throughout the first half. Raiders had numerous goal scoring opportunities early in the first half. On 12 minutes Hallen got bodies in the way to stop a Cam Monteith goal bound shot. Not long after Bailey Fuller shot straight at the keeper after a great cross from Taylor Eades.
The pressure from Raiders continued, scoring their first goal on 30 minutes. Cam slotted a perfect pass to Manny Olaloko, who shot into the corner of the net. Two minutes later a great shot from Jordan Murphy was saved by the outstretched foot of the Hallen goalkeeper, Thomas-Barker. Minutes later a inch perfect cross from Taylor Eades was met by Prince Henry, who headed superbly into the top of the net to score on his debut. Prince was unlucky not to score his second, shooting just wide moments after the restart.
Second Half
The second half saw a much improved performance from Hallen. However, it was Raiders who had the first chance of the half, with a shot from Cam forcing Thomas Barker into making an excellent save. Hallen pressed forward and a goal bound shot was blocked by Sam Whitton, who had an outstanding performance. Hallen continued to press but it was Raiders scoring their third on 63 minutes. Prince, whose debut performance was very impressive, slotted the ball to Cam who scored Raiders’ third.
A more competitive Hallen continued to search for a goal, creating a few chances, however they couldn’t find the finishing touch. This all changed on 77 minutes when confusion in the Raiders defence saw Hallen’s substitute, Keanu Miller, shoot into the roof of the net, despite Jordan Stoddart’s gallant effort to clear off the line.Hallam could consider themselves unlucky not to be awarded a second goal after a shot was deflected and appeared to cross the goal line. The referee and his assistant waved away the appeals from the Hallen players. This was the last action of the game, as Raiders cruised to a comfortable win.
Raiders were impressive on a very heavy and difficult pitch. Having seen many outstanding defensive performances this year, it was great to see an excellent attacking performance. If Raiders can continue to play as they did today, it’s a great opportunity to cement their place in the playoffs, especially with six home games in January. Come on Raiders, deliver another performance like today’s and you can cause a cup upset in the WFA Senior Invitation Cup against Bromsgrove Sporting on Tuesday.
