Raiders return home Saturday, aiming to extend their six-game unbeaten run against relegation-battling side Cribbs. Last week away at the top of the league, the lads showed true character and determination to earn a well-deserved point, the game ending in a 0-0 draw.
It was far from a boring 0-0 draw, with Roman Glass missing two penalties in dramatic fashion. The first skied over the bar after a soft decision, while the second was a redemption story for Charlie Emery, bringing down the opposition attacker, but then making a terrific low save to keep the score even.
An excellent afternoon for Charlie, making several strong saves first half, a penalty save early on second half, and a last-minute, crucial free kick save tipped over the bar to earn us a crucial point.
The lads created chances of their own. After the second missed penalty, they looked the more likely to score, growing in confidence as the game went on. Bailey Fuller flashed an effort just wide, while Jake Donnely came close on two occasions. Raiders will be without Taylor Eades against Cribbs after he was sent off for a second yellow in the 85th minute. Despite the red, we dug in and showed resilience to hold on to a draw in the closing stages. We now make our return tomorrow to the DOADC stadium to take on Cribbs, a side we thrashed 6-0 earlier on in the season.
The visitors sit 19th in the Hellenic Premier Division table, one point off escaping the relegation zone, so Cribbs are certain to be up for the fight tomorrow.
Raiders will approach the fixture with plenty of confidence, having won their last four home games and remain unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions. A win would see us pull clear of any danger of play-off chasers Cirencester Town catching us, and 3 points would put pressure on Droitwich Spa in 3rd as we have two games in hand over them.
