Stourport take bragging rights in the cup.

Stourport Swifts took the bragging rights as they progressed past Worcester Raiders to reach the next round of the WFA senior cup in horrific conditions at Sixways.

Stourport had the best of the opening fifteen minutes as the rain continued to bucket down more torrentially by the minute.

As the clock ticked to the ten-minute mark, Chilton delivered a dangerous corner which was blown off the crossbar bouncing out to a Swifts attacker only for Young to parry from close range to the feet of Chilton whose ball was tipped over the bar.

Despite Raiders starting to get a slight foothold into the tie it would be Swifts with the next big chance as the clock struck twenty-eight as the ball fell to Watts from long range after the ball ricocheting around the area only for Watts to fire just wide.

Although Raiders never really got going in the first half and it looked inevitable the away side would enter the break ahead with several half chances late on both sides entered the break in deadlock.

Once again, the Swifts started the half the stronger of the two sides, four minutes in Jackson hit a first-time cross into the box that Hanson hit first time on the volley that crashed against Young’s bar. Three minutes later, however, Chilton hammered past Young from close range to make it 1-0 to the away side following a ball from Jack Watts that was floated into the area that Young failed to successfully clear.

Just thirteen minutes the Swifts took control of the tie and doubled their lead, Tilbury, following a Watts failed attempt to get a shot away, smashed the ball excellently into the top left corner leaving Raiders a mountain to climb.

With around five minutes of normal time Swifts should have made it three following a lack of any Raiders chance of a comeback, Bailey was found by Tilbury inside the box with only Young to beat but the Raiders keeper blocked expertly.

That left Raiders succumbed to their first home defeat of the season as they were knocked out of the county cup by their local rivals. Raiders will look to return to winning ways when they return to league action away at Mangotsfield United on Saturday (19 th November).
