Tonight’s game was a cracking match. Bromsgrove Sporting put out a strong team against
Raiders, who had 13 players unavailable. Raiders competed strongly against a side two leagues above them, delivering a fantastic all round team performance, which manager Jordan Lewis must be proud of.
First half
Bromsgrove had the first opportunity of the game, when Ethan Young’s long ball pass was
brought down by Gus Sanches, his shot was saved by Charlie at close range.
Raiders competed with Bromsgrove, playing some great one touch passing. When Bromsgrove tried to press forward they were met by a solid Raiders defence. Natty Hewitt was impressive blocking a Bromsgrove shot.
Raiders had their opportunities, Bailey Fuller’s curling shot was pushed away by keeper Rory
Brown. Bailey continued to threaten, pouncing on a Bromsgrove error, running down the right, with Lincoln Hunt narrowly failing to connect with Baily’s cross into the box. As the final minutes of the half neared, Fred King crossed, but Manny Olaloko was unable to head the ball on target.
Second Half
The second half continued to be very competitive, though Bromsgrove had the majority of
possession. In the 61st minute Bromsgrove’s Charlie Pavey looked like he was through only to be met with another fantastic defencive performance from Natty Hewitt, who forced the player out wide and made a great tackle.
Three minutes later Raiders could have taken the lead when Manny went one on one with the
keeper, who saved his shot. Bromsgrove continued to have the majority of the possession and in the 82nd minute Brad Stratton’s shot rattled the Raiders bar.
As the game progressed into the final minutes it was Raiders who looked the most likely to score.
In injury time Bromsgrove were reduced to 10 as captain Tom Edge was sent off having received his second yellow of the game. The game finished in stalemate and progressed to penalties. Charlie Emery came close to saving two of the penalties but it was not meant to be. Bromsgrove winning 5:4 after Rory Brown saved Ben Sanogo’s penalty.
Raiders gave a tremendous performance and competed on every level. While Bromsgrove had the majority of the ball, Raiders remained organised in their team formation. All the players put in a cracking display. Jordan Murphy continues to have an incredible season, putting in a captain’s performance despite playing out of position . Natty Hewitt delivered a solid defencive performance and Manny Olaloko caused Bromsgrove problems up front.
This was an absolute brilliant performance from Raiders, who deserved much more out of the
game.
