Meet Our New Chairman

Meet Our New Chairman

Club Admin30 May 2020 - 17:45

Steve Harris takes over as Interim Chairman

First of all, I would like to say a special thank you to our previous Chairman Kevin Jenkins for all the hard work and effort he has given to this brilliant club. I would like to continue progressing this great club which will certainly be a tough job but a challenge I will relish.

My biggest mission will be to push the club forwards and sell it to the people of Worcester. I want it to be a football team in the city that people can feel proud of.

So Steve where do you think your strengths and weaknesses fit in with the new role?

One of my strengths is that I have a long term vision to build successful businesses. I have built a thriving education business from nothing. I am passionate about selling a vision to people and I want to sell our club to people of Worcester from all ages and backgrounds who have never had a team to support in the city. I want football to be the number one sport in Worcester again which it has always been in the past.

We now have a great new ground and clubhouse which will be a great stepping stone in shaping the future of the Raiders.

Weaknesses.

It will be a learning curve for me getting to grips with the day to day management which our previous Chairman has undertaken. Mistakes may be made on the way, but I believe you gain valuable wisdom in learning from mistakes which will make us stronger. I am lucky that I have a great passionate committee to assist me.

What are your long term goals for this club and where do you see the club being in 5 years time ?

Without a doubt I want Raiders to be the number one club people support in the city.

My vision for the future is to progress to the football league. If the likes of Cheltenham, Hereford and Kiddermister can get to the football league playing in front of thousands, I can not see any reason why we can not get to this level one day. This will be my long term aim, it will be admittedly hard but is achievable.

This year we will be playing in the FA Vase and next season the FA cup. When you think back to where this club started from and it’s humble roots this is an amazing achievement already which people would of doubted many years ago.

What does success look like to you?

To me success is to have a goal, plan the steps to achieve the goal, implement the plan, and finally achieve the goal. Success this season would be promotion without a doubt!

Do you see any changes in the club for the foreseeable future ?

Massive changes in the way the club is run have already started progressing,

We have started the ball rolling with the club being a limited / shareholding business with several keen investors already on board who can see the potential of the club.

How do you think COVID19 will effect you and the club this coming season ?

It’s such an unknown unfortunately, however, the players and management are buzzing for the season to begin. We will hopefully know more next week with regards to when we can start training again.

I think my concern like most teams is when the season will kick off. We all rely on paying customers and the selling of food and drink for the club to survive. Without fans a lot of clubs won’t survive.

What are your aspirations for the club ?

I would love to see more people in Worcester wearing our shirts with pride one day.

Already last season we started selling replica kits for all ages which has not been done before and proved to be a great success. Step by step I want this club to succeed further each year with new fans coming to the ground.

What are your views on the ground share next year?

I think it will be an interesting first season and I’m sure there will be teething problems. I have already had a meeting with Steve Goode Worcester City Chairman and Colin Layland at the ground, they are both great passionate football men who want the best for the club.

We will be meeting on a regular basis until the season starts. We have picked up on several issues and we are working with Worcester FA jointly to overcome them.

I am sure Worcester City see Claines Lane as a temporary measure and have plans to build their own ground one day in the future and wish them the best for the season.
