Raiders hit six to keep promotion bid alive.

It was six of the best for Worcester Raiders on Tuesday, as they put in a dominant display at Bourton Rovers to keeps their title hopes alive writes Ashley Symonds.

The 6-0 victory for the visitors momentarily moves Raiders to the top of the Hellenic League Division One table, three points ahead of Studley, who have two games in hand.

Tuesday’s game was the second away game in three days for Worcester, with Karl Gormley's troops quick out of the blocks under the floodlights.

Bourton were forced to defend from the very first whistle, and in the third minute, Isaac Cooper beat his man down the left wing, before drilling a cross-come-shot, which deflected off a defender’s leg for an own goal.

New signing Ricardo Richards was a threat all game, putting himself in great goalscoring positions all night, but he couldn't convert any of his six shots towards goal.

However, Richards was able to get himself on the assist sheet in the 20th minute, receiving the ball with his back to goal inside the box, and teeing up Kai Mahon, who slid the ball past Bourton’s keeper for 2-0.

Connor Deards was left out of the starting 11 at Milton on Saturday, but he got the nod on Tuesday night and made the decision worth it, as three minutes after the second goal, Harry Stratford played a superb long ball to the feet of Deards, who finished off the move in emphatic fashion.

Similar to the first half, Worcester struck early after the interval, this time with Joe Billingham, who fired the ball into the back of the net from a Copper corner.

With Bourton 4-0 down, their night turned from bad to worse as their number five committed a foul in the middle of the field, resulting in a second yellow card for the player.

However, this was not the only sending-off in the match, as Raiders coach, yes coach, Richard Upton was red-carded and directed towards to the car park, giving the travelling away support a wave and a thumbs up as he left the field.

With Rovers down to ten men, Worcester scored two late goals, with new recruit Ollie Mulders and Deards from the penalty spot sealing an impressive victory.

The full-time whistle called an end to the domination, and Raiders headed back up the M5 with all three points in the bag as well as some great chicken stir-fry supplied in the clubhouse.

The boys in red are back at home on Saturday, hosting 16th place Abingdon United, with gates opening at 12 noon for the televised FA Cup fourth round tie between Kidderminster Harriers and West Ham United.
