Worcester strengthen attacking options.

Worcester Raiders have strengthened their attacking options with the capture of former Walsall, Rushall Olympic and Redditch United striker Connor Deards ahead of tonight’s Hellenic League Division One clash with FC Stratford at Sixways (kick-off 7.45pm).

The predatory front-man, 28, worked under current Aston Villa manager Dean Smith during his time at the Bescot Stadium and has since made a name for himself in step three and four of the non-league pyramid.

Going straight into the matchday squad for tonight’s game against Stratford, Deards will be hoping to get off to a positive start when he pulls on the brand new O’Neills home playing kit.

“We are over the moon to have completed the signing of Connor, who was wanted by a whole host of clubs at step five and four,” said Worcester Joint Manager Mark Owen.

“Connor decided that this was a great opportunity for him – he’s a strong intelligent footballer who will be brilliant for us, not only on the pitch, but a massive asset off it too.

“He demands high standards of others, and he is a big signing for the football club.”

Deards, who makes the switch to Sixways from Bedworth United, is delighted to have put pen to paper on a deal as the Worcester club look to move into the top four with victory tonight.

“I’m thrilled to have signed for for Worcester Raiders, a club that is progressive and ambitious,” said Deards.

“When I spoke to Mark [Owen] I was really impressed with his plans and the direction in which he wants to take the club.

“I can’t wait to pull on the Worcester shirt tonight and help the team.”
